Eleanore M. Marcey
I was born in California and grew up in a military family, spending eight years of my life in Germany. This instilled in me an appreciation for beauty: in architecture, landscape and cultural traditions.
My first degree was in Commercial Art/Illustration. I moved to Texas to work for Pier 1 Imports (headquarters in Fort Worth) and had 10 great years with them; first as a sign artist, then graphic designer and finally, as an art director. My work included designing ads, posters and brochures; organizing and directing photo shoots, and illustrating gift bags and christmas ornaments.
When I returned home to Virginia, I completed a Bachelor's degree in Children's Literature and Illustration. The fine-art drawing and painting classes I took opened my eyes to self-expression as an artist. I also learned that it is good to give up some measure of control, to allow Spirit to enter into the work. At the same time, a return to the Church began opening windows to my soul.
I've continued as a freelance artist and my work has included: children's art and gift bags, nutcrackers and ornaments; greeting cards, postcards, packaging and ads; logos and charts, banners and murals; and lettering for businesses, churches and homes.
Most recently, I've designed a line of cards for combat veterans, to offer them spiritual support. I've had the privilege of giving some of my cards to the wounded warriors at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Center hospitals (which are now combined). I'd like to see a renaissance of card-giving in our country, beginning with an exchange between civilians and combat veterans, especially those of recent wars.
With Ed Tick's permission, I have printed and sold the "Warriorhood" cards. Please contact me for these and any other requests for artwork.
